KOMEN CHICAGO AWARDS OVER $1 MILLION TO LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS TO FIGHT BREAST CANCER IN 2015
Komen Chicago has now donated over $16 million to Chicagoland organizations to fund navigation, screening, diagnostics and treatment support.
CHICAGO – Susan G. Komen® – Chicago recently announced its 2015 class of grantees. The total award of over $1 million will be allocated across the 14 recipient organizations. Since its founding, Komen Chicago has awarded over $16 million to breast cancer programs of local organizations in an effort to end breast cancer in the Chicagoland Area.
“These institutions share Komen’s commitment and passion to helping everyone in the Chicagoland Area receive proper detection and care so we can eradicate breast cancer forever,” said Leticia Kees, Director of Community Programs & Partnerships for Susan G. Komen – Chicago. “These organizations play a significant role in their communities and can provide access to resources on a local basis. Komen believes these grassroot programs are a critical part of defeating breast cancer. We look forward to working with the grantees to support their efforts helping as many women as possible across the five-county region.”
The grantees will be on-site at the 2015 Chicago Race for the Cure, which will be held on Sunday, May 10th, at Butler Field in Grant Park. “The Chicago Race for the Cure is our largest fundraising event, and is an incredible way to kick off Mother’s Day,” noted Komen Chicago’s CEO Susan Tybon. “It is an opportunity to not only celebrate the breast cancer survivors in our community, but also to ensure that we can continue fighting this disease with the help of our grantees’ innovative programs.” Registration for the Race is still open at www.komenchicago.org.
